Howdy y'all! First stop - Houston, Texas. It's always good to be back to see family, friends, and (not gonna lie) eat TexMex lol.

Now, Houston is not necessarily a place people tend to visit... I mean, the heat is sweltering (it's consistently been around 100F/38C), the traffic sucks, and it's not the prettiest of places on our beautiful earth... and yet a week goes by way too quick here because there's just so much to do! This time around I took a bit of a slower paced approach than my usual go-go-go. That said, I still got to see and do a bunch!

  • Caught an Astros game. Too bad we lost... but Breggy hit a homer and we did have bases loaded at one point :)

  • Explored the downtown tunnels and peeked into the Hyatt to see my dad's old place of work.

  • Spent some time on Galveston Island, enjoying the sea breeze and all-round relaxing vibes.

  • Stopped at Bucee’s a few times for obligatory Texas road trip feels, banana pudding, and crap you don't really need.

  • And spent time with some of my favorite people, doing what we all love to do most: eat :D

For any of you who happen to end up in Houston at some point or another, here are a few travel tips for you.

Cool things in Houston:

  • Craft Breweries: there are so many breweries! The OGs are St. Arnold and Karbach. But there are a ton more that have popped up, all with their own vibe, selection of brews, and most with some pretty solid food menus as well!

  • Downtown Tunnels: That's right - there is an entire tunnel network in downtown Houston that connects the different office buildings. The tunnels are filled with shops and lots of restaurants. Pro tip: enter through the Chase building on Main Street - the building is full of mid-century decor!

  • Galveston Island: Can't go wrong with beach time! Galveston is only an hour drive away from Houston and the perfect little getaway. I love coming here with my BFFs. That sea breeze just hits different. Walking along the beach collecting seashells is so relaxing. And if you want a little more action, head to the Strand - Galveston's old town - to meander around the historic buildings, shop and eat.

  • Johnson Space Center: I mean, you can't beat visiting NASA! Seeing the mission control center where Apollo 11's moon landing was monitored is just magical! Not to mention the real life rockets and Texas Longhorns!

  • Museums: there are some super cool museums in Houston! The MFAH, the Menil Collection, the Children's Museum, Museum of Natural Science, and the Cisterns are some of my favorites. But nothing beats the James Turrell sky space. The concept is so simple and yet you can sit there and mediate and experience so many different colors and moods - it's fascinating!

  • Pedal Party: Ok, this activity is not specific to Houston. But, Houston is where I first did one of these, hence the mention. I basically book one of these every time I'm in town :D It's a super fun group activity with a good combo of movement, chatting, and seeing the city. And yes, consumption of adult beverages does not fall short. This trip I just couldn't make one happen... but I will be back for sure!

  • Tacos: because tacos are life! Haha. Seriously, you can't come to Houston without eating some bomb tacos! But also, the food scene in general is amazing. From little hole-in-the-walls and food trucks, to gourmet establishments and James Beard finalists - Houston's got it all!

Of course there's loads more, but this is a pretty solid start, I'd say ;)

Ok, prepping for the next leg of the trip. Talk soon!
